A Day with Carrie K
Woke up
The sun looked autumn in July
Against the brick wall
No Terra cotta rooftops
autumn will come
the children
elongated get a
wise sadness in their eyes
I took my friend to
the railway tracks
we passed a kid
with some spray cans and a mask
he was kind enough to share
I spray painted
our initials
she talks of her five year love drought
I see her as a freshwater spring
she wants to be a fountain
they cut your hair wrong
so your thick mane puffs out
they died the grey
in coppery streaks
trying to make you look
like a sitcom wife
you hate it
your daughter didn't
like the sandals you bought her
We ate poutine and Dill pickles
Beer and black cherry
On the sidewalk
I watch outrement women walk by, all decked out
I try to see them as sisters
I know my man is
taken in by these facades
I take his eye out of my eye
And him out of my heart
Turn and tell my dear
friend everything
